- Thanks to that banged-up shoulder
he incurred sliding into second on Saturday, Jered Weaver will miss his next start.
Joe Saunders will get yet another callup, but this time I have a
feeling it's going to be permanent. I suspect they're going to
find out something
is seriously wrong with Colon, which would
make things easy for them on the 25-man if the team elected to
go that route. Unfortunately, it may not be so simple;
the
Rev enumerates the options as
- DFA Shea Hillenbrand: won't happen now that he's being a good citizen and starting to hit a little.
- Option Terry Evans to AAA.
- Retroactively disable Casey Kotchman to July 17: won't happen because the Angels want his bat in the lineup Saturday, not Monday.
- DFA Nathan Haynes: (I think he's out of options, thus has to be DFA'd.) Won't happen because the Angels want to hang on to him.
- Option Erick Aybar: Won't happen because the Angels need somebody who can play the middle infield positions to give Cabrera and Kendrick an occaisional day off.
- The Travs' website is down so this link doesn't work, but Curtis Pride has been promoted to AAA Salt Lake, and OF Coby Smith has been promoted to Rancho.

Bulletin about Rancho closer Darren O'Day. O'Day picked
U. Florida based on academics first rather than where he wanted
to play ball. He learned to throw sidearm in a men's league,
which changed his career:
"I thought they (coaches) were going to tell me not to throw that way," O'Day said. "But instead they said, `never throw overhand again."'
O'Day has taken the MCAT and has ambitions to become a doctor if his baseball career doesn't work out. Good for him.This time, O'Day made the team. Although it was only modest success, O'Day did compile a 4-3 record and a 4.81 ERA in relief for the Gators in his freshman season in 2003.
- The Anteaters' magical ride ended Wednesday, as they couldn't survive Oregon State's 7-1 drubbing. Congratulations on a great season, UCI!
- A's top draftee James Simmons will be sent directly to AA Midland. Simmons is a righty from UC Riverside, signed as the 26th pick overall for a $1,192,500 bonus.

Appears to have been suspended in the
top of the third with two out, but since the GCL is pretty lame about
issuing rescheduling information, we'll just have to wait. My guess
is an attempt to play today, which would have been an off day for the
Dodgers, or a doubleheader on the 25th, which was an already scheduled
contest against the Dodgers.
