News
- Bartolo Colon completed a bullpen workout Tuesday, and will make his next start at St. Louis.
- The Rev passes along a useful Chone Smith post about where Joe Saunders would appear in rotations not in the Anaheim of Los Angeles. What would be even more interesting is to extend this further, since there was somebody in the BTF thread where this originally came up saying that a number of those teams would have had issues preventing him from taking a rotation slot.
- Troy Percival is drawing interest from the Tigers, Phillies, Devil Rays, Giants, Indians, Braves, and A's, with the Indians supposedly having the highest level of interest. He's throwing 88-90 MPH, and according to one scout, "what he's got is probably better than some."
- Scott Elbert is done for
the season:
Left-hander Scott Elbert, arguably the Dodgers' top pitching prospect, will miss the rest of the season after undergoing exploratory arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder. Doctors found scarring on Elbert's labrum, and he won't be allowed to begin a throwing program for several months.
Without knowing the medical situations, it reminds of Greg Miller...Elbert, the Dodgers' first-round draft pick (17th overall) in 2004, made three starts for Double-A Jacksonville early in the season. But he went to extended spring training in mid-April to try to work out the soreness in his shoulder and never rejoined the Suns.
Update: From today's Times, it appears there's a differing story, namely that Elbert will miss 8-10 weeks.
- Marlon Anderson will start a rehab assignment with Las Vegas tonight, and will likely stay there for the maximum 20 days.
- If all goes well during a practice run that will include covering first base, Takashi Saito will be available to pitch starting Friday night at Toronto.

Jose Arredondo had an unusual bad outing, giving up three runs over two outs, all three unearned thanks to errors by 3B Ryan Leahy and RF Greg Porter.

McDonald: (L, 4-5), 4.0 IP, 7 R, 7 ER, 9 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 2 HR, 3.88 ERA
The Cal League is a notorious hitter's league, and from memory, High Desert especially is a launching pad, something this game highlighted. Both teams combined for 30 hits, three of which were homers, with High Desert's Michael Saunders going 5-for-5 and missing the cycle by a triple. James McDonald got slammed for seven runs, all earned, giving up a pair of homers. Russell Mitchell's solo homer was the only one the 66ers got.
