News
- The Dodgers aren't committing to Jason Schmidt's next start, which might mean another DL stint.
- "Yhency Brazoban will have his sore shoulder examined on Monday," according to the Times.
- Terry Evans, on his callup to the Show:
"I told [my dad], 'I didn't get you anything for Father's Day, but I was wondering if a Dodger ticket would do tomorrow,'" Evans said. "He was super excited. He's flying out [from Georgia] to see me, so I get to spend some time with him tonight. ... It's obviously the best Father's Day gift he's ever gotten."
Scores
Wood: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Gorneault: 0-4
Mathis: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Saunders: (L, 3-5), 6.0 IP, 7 R, 4 ER, 8 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 5.22 ERA
Man, that's ugly. Joe Saunders isn't anywhere near as good in AAA this year as he was last year, but maybe, like the Dodgers' underperforming James Loney, he's upset that he's being used as depth rather than as a major league starter having proven himself. Luckily for his ERA this year, three of the seven runs he allowed were unearned thanks to a fourth inning fielding error by Mike Eylward. Nonetheless, it was a very poor showing for Joe, who seems to have had number of outings like this one this year, and the 5.22 ERA to show for it:

The first two came on Brandon Wood's third inning homer, and the last four arrived in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Ryan Budde ripped a double that scored all three men.
The Bees' bullpen continued their fine work of late, with Matt Wilhite and Jason Bulger both pitching scoreless frames.
Rodriguez, S: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K
Collins: 1-4
Peel, A: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Duff: 2-4
Gonzalez, M: (W, 3-2), 7.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 3.62 ERA
Yay! The Travs are finally on a hot streak, powered in this game by homers by Sean Rodriguez and Freddy Sandoval. Sandoval's blast was a big two-out, three-run jack in the top of the ninth that provided the Travs with insurance runs that, as it turns out, they didn't need, thanks to a scoreless inning by Bill Edwards.
Miguel Gonzalez, converted to starting in May, posted his best game of the year by holding the opposition to one run over seven innings, a solo homer off the bat of Michael Ferris.
Statia: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Infante: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Mattison: (BS, 4)(L, 1-3) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 4.82 ERA
Arredondo: 1.0 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 37.80 ERA
It's a slugfest! It's a blowout! It's both, as the Quakes' pitching staff imploded. Starter Brok Butcher followed his best game of the year with one of his worst, surrendering six runs over five innings, two unearned thanks to sloppy play; both sides committed five errors, though only two runs were unearned. It's a testament to how well Butcher has pitched this year that his ERA only increased to 2.10.
Tim Mattison gave up five runs and was tagged for the loss. Recently demoted Jose Arredondo had his second consecutive bad outing for Rancho, pitching an inning of relief while giving up five runs. Francisco Rodriguez came into the game in the seventh and failed to retire a single batter but was charged with three runs on three hits and a walk. Amazingly, only one home run was recorded by each side in this blowout.
Trumbo: 0-3, 1 BB
Conger: 1-3
Phillips: 2-4, 1 K
Herndon: (L, 7-4), 5.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 9 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 3.63 ERA
Cassevah: 2.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 2.79 ERA
Madrigal: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 3.64 ERA
David Herndon made his first less-than-quality start of the month, as he gave up two runs in the first; the Timber Rattlers led all the way thereafter. The only good news from the pitching side was Warner Madrigal's two scoreless innings.
Young: 2-5, 1 2B
LaRoche: 1-2
Lindsey: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Freeman: 2-4
Maza: 3-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Pinango: 5.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 H, 6 K, 4 BB, 3.35 ERA
Hull: 1.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 3.28 ERA
Riley: (W, 2-1) (in relief), 2.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 6.75 ERA
With the game tied at 3-3 after both sides posted three single-run innings, John Lindsey, promoted to Jacksonville on the twelfth, drove in Delwyn Young for the game winner in the top of the eighth. Lindsey also had a two-out homer in the fourth, his third in his last three games with Las Vegas and his third of the season in the PCL. (He had 11 for Jacksonville before being promoted.)
This is the first time in Lindsey's career he has ever played at AAA; previously, he repeated high-A five times with three different teams as an organizational player, ending up in the indy leagues twice. He seems to have found something this year as a 30-year-old, but it's likely too late for him to contribute at the major league level.
Miguel Pinango got the start, striking out six but lasting only five innings. Matt Riley got the win in relief.
Hu, C: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Dunlap: 0-2, 3 BB
Gonzalez, J: 3-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Norrito: 6.2 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 2.32 ERA
Wright: (W, 4-2) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 3.79 ERA
Meloan: (S, 12), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 2.38 ERA
Juan Gonzalez's eighth-inning two-run jack decided this contest. Wesley Wright got the save in relief, and Jonathan Meloan collected his twelfth save by striking out the side. Giuseppe Norrito pitched his fifth quality start in six tries. He doesn't get a lot of whiffs, but he does get a ton of ground balls, with a 1.60 GO/AO ratio.
Denker, T: 2-3, 1 BB
De Jesus: 0-3, 1 K
Bastardo: (L, 4-3), 4.0 IP, 5 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 2 HR, 5.09 ERA
Wilson: 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.51 ERA
A thumping on Alberto Bastardo, who gave up only two earned runs but five overall thanks to two errors by 66ers gloves. Francisco Felix entered the game in the fifth and surrendered two runs without retiring a batter. Former Bruin Kyle Wilson finished the game without a run scoring; he has allowed one run all year (17.2 IP).
Giles: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
Bell: 2-4, 2 2B
Santana: 0-3
White, C: 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 6 K, 5 BB, 2.63 ERA
Sanfler: (H, 2)(L, 2-2) (in relief), 0.1 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 5.55 ERA
Ramirez: (BS, 2), 1.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 1.30 ERA
Great Lakes carried a 2-0 lead through seven, but the bullpen let down starter Cody White, as Miguel Sanfler gave up three runs in the eighth. Miguel Ramirez was charged with the blown save, as he allowed both his inherited runners to score.
