Pickoff Moves
Oh, Canada! Dodgers 10, Blue Jays 1
Russell Martin went 2-for-4 in his homeland, with a home run and a walk in a game that turned into a romp for the Dodgers, and perhaps dispelled the AL-dominates-NL meme. Brad Penny turned in a masterful performance, going seven innings and fanning five, the only extra-base hit surrendered being a Troy Glaus double.Roster Notes
- John Lackey has a stiff shoulder and may miss his next start. He might get his next start against the Royals on Tuesday.
- Casey Kotchman is hoping for a Friday return.
- The Angels have signed 19 of 49 players selected in the 2007 draft, including OF Trever Pippen.
- Duh: Chad Billingsley will take Jason Schmidt's spot in the rotation. His first start will be Thursday against the Blue Jays.
- James Loney has some residual swelling and soreness from his collision Sunday with the outfield concrete, but nothing in the Times piece indicates when he might return to service.
- Chin-hui Tsao is scheduled to throw off a mound today.
- Former Dodger Paul Shuey has returned to the major leagues in an Orioles uniform. Best of luck, Paul.
- Randy Johnson has a herniated disc and will try and pitch through it. It's the same disc that he had operated on last October. Ouch.
- Via BTF, an interesting rumor that the Cubs have traded Michael Barrett to the Padres. Barrett has been involved with some high-profile altercations, including a fight with starter Carlos Zambrano, and a "heated discussion" with starter Rich Hill.
Did They Read Pierre's Career Numbers Before They Signed Him?
In today's Daily News:So this is what it looks like when Juan Pierre does what the Dodgers paid him all those millions to do, which is get on base, create havoc on the basepaths and score runs.But... he's never been an especially good OBP guy, save for three years in Florida, and his production there had declined for a while prior to his contract. Going 2-for-4 against a pitcher with a career 1.64 WHIP isn't all that impressive.
