UTK Quickies
From today's Will Carroll column:
- Jason Schmidt has lost velocity from his first start since his recovery to his second, and "[the] Dodgers will need to try and get Schmidt to contribute, and should be thinking outside the box to figure out how to best use the resources they have." Jon pointed out Will's Unfiltered post detailing a way to do just that, with the old-fashioned "Sunday starter".
- There was some whinging that I had no freaking idea what I was talking about when I said Jered Weaver was wild in his last start. Gentlemen, here's your crow pie:
Jered Weaver started the season with shoulder problems, and is now dealing with back problems as we near the halfway point. The Angels admitted that Weaver's back has affected him for a couple of starts, and that a wet mound aggravated it rather than caused it. The Angels will wait to see how he recovers and how he does on the side before deciding whether he'll make his next start.
- Kenny Rogers is currently a bit ahead of schedule for his return, and might be back with the Rangers by the end of the month.
- Rich Harden's return date will be better known by the end of the week.
