Mariners' Manager Hargrove Resigns

Now that's weird:
In a prepared statement released by the organization, Hargrove said he was stepping aside because his "passion has begun to fade" and it would not be "fair to myself or the team" to continue.
Bench coach John McLaren will take his place.

Update: Also via AP.

Leave when you're on top.

They've been after his hide for months. There's not a better time to rid himself of a festering boil.

I suspect you're right. He probably doesn't think the current winning streak will last, and so he's looking to get out now while there's still a chance to be a hero.

Which is really weird, if you think about it. I guess it's cutting off his boss's chance of firing him.
