One Feature Article Closer To Ervin Santana's Return To AAA

I suppose the good news is that this marks one of the last times we'll have to hear the same tired litany about Ervin Santana's failure to concentrate or whatever the hell on the road. Santana's big problem has forever and always been his lack of consistency, dating back to his days in the minors. The idea that he'll pay his dues in AAA appeals greatly to me, as he's barely spent any time at that level and clearly could use more seasoning in a place where the games don't count as much. Don't get me wrong, Santana still has value. He could still be something great, but first he has to prove it; with every bad major league start, whether on the road or at home, he's forcing a choice Angels fans would rather the team not have to make. But no matter what happens, shipping him down for one month of August starts at Salt Lake won't be enough, not by a year.

Why do you think that article means anything substantial? All I'm hearing from the major organizational players there is that they continue to protect Santana, shelter him from any consequences of having the worst numbers among all qualifying AL pitchers, and avow that there is no "date" for demotion and suggest even allowing five more bad starts is a possibility.

It's Jeff Weaver all over again, and it's meant us losing at least four games to Seattle while Mike dickers with little boy blue.

I assume there is a finite number of games he can lose before the Angels finally, belatedly, take notice.

I may be a naif in this belief.
