Robothal: Braves To Acquire Teixeira For Saltalamacchia, Others
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Braves have traded catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, class A shortstop Elvis Andrus, and two pitching prospects for 1B Mark Teixeira and reliever Ron Mahay. Now, at least, all the idiotic trade rumors about him going to the Angels can cease.

So, the Rangers supposedly wanted Kotchman, Saunders, and Wood from the Angels? Maybe they just had a higher price for an inter-divisional opponent.
The rumors are idiotic because Stoneman continues to overvalue his prospects, thereby neglecting to make any big deals to acquire the slugger they lack to complement Guerrero. Better luck next year Halos!
I don't follow Bluecrew's logic. It is true that the rumors are false because Stoneman overvalues his prospects? Huh, what does the verity of the rumors have to do with Stoneman's managerial tendencies? What's more, since the primary rumor was Kotchman, Saunders + Santana/Adenhart/Wood/Kendrick, how do you consider Kotchman or Saunders as "prospects"? Kotchman is our starting first baseman, and Saunders is our #4 pitcher, who has pitched 22 games in the MLB. Those aren't "prospects" anymore, and they are hardly overvalued.

Julio Lugo (.219/.278/.267 as a Dodger), Toby Hall (.368/.383/.439 in 57 AB), and Mark Hendrickson (4.67 ERA, 2-7 as a Dodger)! Yeah, that'll show those Angels who knows how to make trades!

Well Andrew, the rumors are false because Stoneman will not make pull the trigger. Is that simple enough for you? I don't consider Kotchman or Saunders bonafide major leaguers yet. In fact, they just called Saunders back up to replace the guy that they could have traded when he had alot more value, maybe for Tejada. They will probably make the playoffs and come up a hitter short, again.
The Dodger players last year talked about how appreciative they were that Coletti was active instead of sitting on his hands. Stoneman is still paralyzed by his trade of Edmonds, I suppose. They promised a power hitter this year, where is he. Even you (Rob) admit he is too inactive when someone else doesn't accuse him of it. As for last years trades, Maddux (who you neglected to mention) and Hall played well and they got extra first round picks for Lugo. They were players that the Dodgers would have lost anyway due to no spots being available on their 40 man rosters. They obviously didn't fit into the plans. Jackson and Navarro are doing great, huh? In short, teams will have good trades and bad ones, but you can't be afraid to make them.

Based on what? Kotchman is presently 7th in VORP with a 22.0 score, and 6th in VORPr, with a .284 score that compares very favorably to Kevin Youkilis. Is Youkilis also not a major leaguer, or is this some kind of unwinnable pissing contest that begins and ends with your opinion? What about Saunders, for that matter? Do his four wins this year not count?

Arrogant?! I think you wrote the book on that one. As for Kotchman's numbers, do you remember a guy named Kevin Maas? how about Greg Brock? Hee Sop Choi? There are countless examples of players who started out well and flopped. Are you ready to say that Kotchman is the long term answer there? Why were the Angels even considering Texeiera then? Four starts? Ok, he's ready, just as Santana was! Geez, talk about arrogance. As for Hendrickson, he had good solid numbers before he came to the Dodgers, and that in the AL East. What happened, I don't know. However, they were desperate for pitching and they made a move. The Angels are desperate for a hitter, what will happen?
