Comebacker: Dodgers 6, Giants 4
A welcome tonic to yesterday's Angels game, that's for sure, complete with a thrilling and seemingly lightning-quick comeback in the bottom of the eighth; one minute, the Dodgers are playing just to keep the game alive, and the next, they're taking a two-run lead into the top of the ninth so Saito can save it. The most improbable part of it, of course, was Omar Vizquel throwing away Juan Pierre's bunt, which ultimately set him up for a steal of second, and then scoring the game-tying run on Luis Gonzalez's RBI single.
That Russell Martin hadn't done anything in the prior at bat was sadly expected; he's been ice cold for at least the last week, and he was like this last year, too, hitting a paltry .276/.354/.425 in the second half. Not that there's anything wrong with that given he's a catcher, but clearly he needs more days off.
Nomar's subsequent homer ended as the game-winner (making a loser of Randy Messenger), his third homer in his last three weeks, a veritable explosion for him. Let's hope it's a trend.

Hey Rob. Not to nitpick, but Messenger took the loss, right? (And I'm asking since I just finished my blog post about the game, and it's germane to my comment about Benitez (which I hope I got right)).
PS love the "welcome tonic" reference, esp. since I was drinking heavily as I watched (in HD) what appeared to be a lackadaisical Dodger effort.

Duly fixed. Thanks for the correction; my addled rememberer recalled Kline on the mound for Nomar's jack.
