Minor League Scorebook

2007-08-16: Tucson 8, Salt Lake 2 #
Gorneault: 1-4
Evans: 1-2, 1 2B, 2 BB
Kendrick: 2-4
Rivera: 0-2, 1 BB
Morales: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Wood: 0-4, 2 K
Eylward: 2-4, 1 2B
Wilson: 0-4, 1 RBI
Olenberger: (L, 10-6), 5.0 IP, 7 R, 7 ER, 10 H, 1 K, 4 BB, 2 HR, 4.80 ERA
Howie Kendrick did all right for himself in his fourth rehab game at Salt Lake, going 2-for-4. Juan Rivera and the Bees weren't able to do much against a fairly mediocre starter, Greg Smith (2-2, 4.84 ERA), who got the win. Kendry Morales extended his hitting streak to six games; he's been on fire in the month of August, with a .451/.463/.725 line. Walks are still a problem for him: he has ten total for the year, but it should also be noted that he rarely strikes out (27 in 233 AB).

Not going unnoticed: another zero frame by Rich Thompson (on one strikeout and a hit), bringing his season ERA down to 1.96.

2007-08-16: Arkansas 6, Corpus Christi 4 #
Sandoval, F: 0-2, 3 BB
Rodriguez, S: 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Myers: 2-3, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Collins: 1-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Coon: 2-4, 1 K
Gonzalez, M: 5.2 IP, 4 R, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 2.94 ERA
Rodriguez, R: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 4.45 ERA
Kennard, J: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.09 ERA
O'Day: (S, 6), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 3.09 ERA
Arkansas made good work of season-long nemeses Corpus Christi, breaking a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth with a rally that started with a Coby Smith walk and capped by Corey Myers' suicide squeeze. Darren O'Day got the save, and Jeff Kennard got his first win in a Travs uniform.
2007-08-16: Rancho Cucamonga 3, Bakersfield 6 #
Statia: 0-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Larue: 2-3, 1 2B
Marek: (L, 7-9), 4.2 IP, 5 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 4.77 ERA
A very sloppy game for Rancho, with plenty of self-destructive acts that included three errors (one by starter Stephen Marek) and a hit batter leading to four unearned runs.
2007-08-16: Peoria 1, Cedar Rapids 11 #
Phillips: 3-5, 1 RBI
Bourjos: 0-5, 2 K
Ortiz, W: 3-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
Trumbo: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Sweeney: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB
Johnson: 3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI
Mount: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Rosario: 3-4, 1 RBI
O'Sullivan: (W, 9-6), 7.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 2.31 ERA
Cassevah: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.81 ERA
Sean O'Sullivan's dominant seven-inning performance was the highlight of this 11-run blowout. Five Kernels had two or more hits, and Tyler Johnson drove in three to pace the club.
2007-08-16: Orem 6, Helena 0 #
Miller: 0-4, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Estrella: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Moore: 2-5, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K
Kennedy: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K
Pippin: 0-3, 2 BB, 3 K
Fish: (W, 3-2), 6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 5 K, 0 BB, 3.04 ERA
Veras: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 6.52 ERA
This game was the first time starter Robert Fish has qualified for a quality start all year; even though he had three other wins in his belt, he never finished the sixth before. It was his second shutout.

Jeremy Moore hit a three-run homer, his ninth of hte season.

2007-08-16: AZL Angels 12, AZL Royals 4 #
Fuller: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB
Garcia: 1-2, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 4 BB
Dicent: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Knazek: 0-1, 4 BB, 1 K
Anton: (W, 5-2), 6.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 H, 8 K, 0 BB, 3.51 ERA
Michael Anton is posting an 11.28 K/9 in the AZL, and at 22 it's not much of a surprise; he's playing against some kids four years his junior. Nice work if you can get it.

Clayton Fuller's homer was a seventh-inning solo shot. Christopher Garcia took four free passes, a season high for the first baseman, a heretical act that will undoubtedly get him expelled from the organization. (That's called sarcasm.) He's sporting a .333/.480/.474 line with the Angels, very similar to the .316/.426/.474 line he had with Orem earlier. Gotta love those walks.

2007-08-16: Las Vegas 1, Colorado Springs 3 (7 innings) #
Abreu: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Hu, C: 0-2, 1 BB
Young: 1-3, 2 K
Cyr: (L, 3-4), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 6.63 ERA
Finally making up the makeup games, Eric Cyr pitched a decent six but lost anyway.
2007-08-16: Las Vegas 5, Colorado Springs 3 (7 innings) #
Valdez: 2-4
Hu, C: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI
Young: 0-3, 2 K
Lindsey: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K
Abreu: 1-1, 1 RBI
Pollok: 4.2 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 5.59 ERA
Meloan: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 1.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 2.57 ERA
Fussell: (S, 2), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.75 ERA
If you can't win with one, win with five! John Lindsey and Chin-Lung Hu both homered, and despite less-than-impressive outings by Dwayne Pollok and Jonathan Meloan, the 51's won it to split the doubleheader.
