Pickoff Moves

The Tragedy Of Tony Conigliaro

In which the tragic events of August 18, 1967 are recalled:
“The sound was terrible,” Petrocelli said. “It was the sound you’d hear if you smashed a piece of fruit.”

Said Buck Rodgers, Hamilton’s catcher that night, “Everyone has talked about Jack Hamilton as head-hunting. But Tony was leaning way out over the plate. The actual pitch may have been two inches inside. I’ve seen 500 pitches that were a lot more inside than the one that hit Tony.”

Conigliaro was never the same again, damaging his vision and limiting his ability. He played through 1970 with the Red Sox, played a feckless 1971 season in California, and returned in 1975 after a three year layoff.

Carlos Zambrano Extended: $90M/5 Years

So he won't be a Yankee. Good news for the Cubbies.

Roster Notes

John Lackey, Minor League Brawler

Not surprised.
