Die, Mr. Scheduler, Die: Red Sox 8, Angels 4

The damn schedulers split the Angels/Red Sox series so that the Angels have to play seven at Fenway but only three at home, and get shafted on makeup games, too.

Lackey gave up six in the first inning of a game that's now 7-1, including a two-run shot to Big Papi and a triple to J.D. Drew. It's a laugher for the Red Sox, but an embarrassment to the Angels' supposed ace, who's already thrown 97 pitches and hasn't started the fifth yet. Tonight we get to see whether Ervin Santana will break some kind of major league record for most runs allowed by a pitcher in a single inning.

Update: The Angels rallied for a couple runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth, but when you're only hitting singles (the Angels' only extra-base hit was Casey Kotchman's one-out double in the fourth, and he was left stranded), you don't get a lot of opportunities to win ballgames, especially against a club like the Red Sox. Good on Kotch for getting a hit off a tough lefty (Hideki Okajima) and going 4-for-4 on the day. Also worthy of praise: another trio of zero frames by Chris Bootcheck, who's worming his way up the depth chart and shrank his ERA down to 3.99.

Reggie Willits ended the day with three whiffs, one away from a Golden Sombrero. I expect more.

Update 2: John Lackey had a career 6.68 ERA at Fenway prior to today's game. Ervin Santana has a career 12.38 ERA at Fenway. He should be at least twice as bad. Will there be a major league (or even Red Sox or Angels) record in runs allowed in a single inning set tonight?
