Chemistry Class: Diamondbacks 6, Dodgers 1
You've got a chemistry class I want a piece of your mindThe first two games of this series having gone so well, it's easy to forget that the Dodgers still did remarkably well against the Snakes by taking two. Esteban Loaiza confirmed my general disgust by allowing Arizona three runs after only an inning and a half, and didn't manage to complete the fifth; he got the (deserved) loss as well.

Are you ready for the final solution?— Elvis Costello, "Chemistry Class"
Loiaza's presence in the rotation grates, for the simple reason that it could be Eric Stults or D.J. Houlton making the same kind of mistake (and maybe fewer of them) for a lot less money, and with possibly more upside. I say this despite David Wells winning three of his four starts with the Dodgers, because it really does seem like they're looking for reasons to avoid playing the kids. (Jon thinks it's "any player not named Juan", but it's really any rookie.) And I don't mean to make the kids out to be something they're not; yesterday, the Dodger kids were a collective 3-for-10, all singles, while the team's only run came on Rafael Furcal's solo homer. But looking across the way into the Arizona dugout, for reasons of necessity that can often be a virtue, the Diamondbacks are playing their kids and winning. The Dodgers could take a lesson.
