Scioscia Throws Up The White Flag: White Sox 9, Angels 7
What a miserable display of the Angels' bullpen incompetence, unable to hold a six-run lead. Chris Bootcheck gave up a three-run jack, Scot Shields gave up a four-pitch walk and a two-run homer, and Scioscia had no business leaving either in with better options available. Reggie Willits fumbled a ball in center that was ruled a base hit. The worst, most obvious boneheaded move was Scioscia bringing in Erick Aybar to a game-critical situation: with Howie Kendrick on and nobody out in the top of the ninth, and the score lamentably tied, Aybar hit — predictably — into a double play. Dustin Moseley gave up a single to Darin Erstad, followed by Jim Thome's 500th home run as a walkoff parting gift:
Just pathetic. If they go into the postseason with this crappy bullpen, it'll be a very short ALDS.
