Minor League Scorebook
News
- With rosters expanding and all but the Pioneer League playing their final game of the season today, there's no Prospect Hot Sheet, nor Players or Pitchers of the Week.
- The Dodgers correspondingly called up infielders Tony Abreu and Wilson Valdez, OF Delwyn Young, and pitchers Eric Stults and Eric Hull. Someone will be kicked off the 40-man roster to make room for Valdez, who is not on it. Also, Las Vegas manager Lorenzo Bundy and pitching coach Ken Howell will join the club for the last three games of the Cubs series.
- Hank Conger's homer and double yesterday clinched a playoff spot for Cedar Rapids.
Scores
Murphy: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Eylward: 2-5, 1 K
Evans: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 K
Gorneault: 1-5, 1 RBI
Wood: 3-5, 2 2B, 1 K

Wilson: 0-4, 1 K

Arredondo: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 3.00 ERA
The 51's went out on a high note while the Bees took one in the shorts in a laugher that featured Delwyn Young matching a modern-era PCL doubles record (54 on the season) in his last appearance with Las Vegas before his callup to the majors. Douglas Brandt made his PCL debut and got clobbered. Regardless of that, he's had one hell of a year, starting the season in the AZL, advancing to Cedar Rapids (skipping the Pioneer League) and then jumping to Rancho, all while maintaining impressive strikeout rates and being used as a swingman. Unsurprisingly, he didn't strike out anybody, his first game in over a month where that was the case. Expect to see him on the prospect radar for next year.
Greg Porter's two-run homer was pretty much the highlight of the game offensively for the Bees; Casey Smith also homered, a solo shot in the eighth. The Bees finished the season 74-69, and go on to the postseason (so far I can't find any dates).
Wilson Valdez also helped the 51's pound in some runs, going 4-for-5 with a two-run homer. Miguel Pinango pitched five innings of three-run ball, striking out four. Every 51 starter had at least one hit.
Las Vegas finished 67-77.
Pali: 2-4, 1 K
Collet: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 K
Green: (L, 10-8), 6.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 3.68 ERA
Nick Green tossed a fine game but his offense failed to support him in the Travs' last game of the year. Sean Rodriguez drove in the team's only run.
Pettit: 0-1, 3 BB
Peel, A: 2-3, 1 RBI
Marek: 5.0 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 4.30 ERA
Incinelli: (BS, 1)(W, 3-2) (in relief), 3.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 4.09 ERA
Rodriguez: (S, 2), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 5.96 ERA
Steven Marek was three outs away from a quality start, as two of the runs charged against him were unearned thanks to a fielding error by Clifton Remole. Josh Leblanc singled in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, with Francisco Rodriguez picking up his second save of the season.
Phillips: 1-3, 1 3B, 2 K
Diaz: (L, 3-6), 5.1 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 13 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 4.47 ERA
A rough game for Amalio Diaz, who took a loss that included a solo homer to Darwin Barney, only Barney's second of the year. It's a wonder the game wasn't more lopsided, as Peoria outhit Cedar Rapids 16 to 4.
Romine: 2-4, 1 RBI
Brossman: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Gronkowski: 3-4, 1 K
Tobin: 2.0 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 3.21 ERA
Chambers: (W, 3-1) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1.85 ERA
Brasier: (S, 9), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.12 ERA
Mason Tobin's second straight bad start, but the Owlz recovered from it, thanks in part to Gordie Gronkowski's 3-for-4 game; he finishes his season with a .345/.419/.526 line. Hector Estrella ripped a go-ahead triple in the eighth to win the game for the Owlz.
Valdez: 4-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Young: 2-6, 1 2B, 2 RBI
McDougall: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 K
Maza: 4-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Becker: 2-4, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Pinango: (W, 10-7), 5.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 8 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 1 HR, 4.12 ERA
Hoorelbeke: 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 5.55 ERA

Ellis: 2-6, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Dewitt: 0-3, 2 K
Howard, K: 2-4, 2 BB
Miller: 4.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 5 K, 2 BB, 4.69 ERA
Megrew: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 5.30 ERA
Troncoso: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 3.12 ERA
Wright: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 2.49 ERA
Norrito: (L, 8-5) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 4 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 3 BB, 4.13 ERA
A four-run top of the 13th decided this game as Joey Norrito took his fifth loss of the season; the Suns made two errors in the inning, one by 1B Jimmy Rohan and another by 2B Kevin Howard, so only one of those runs was earned. A.J. Ellis hit his eighth homer of the season, a leadoff shot in the fourth.
Hunt: 2-3, 1 2B
Alvarez, M: (L, 7-10), 4.2 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 4 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 5.60 ERA
A scheduled doubleheader that turned into a single game because of the Lake Elsinore victory; the only thing on the line was home field advantage, which the 66ers would have had to win both games to take.
The 66ers end the season with three players having 80 or more RBIs in a season, with Lucas May (89), Travis Mitchell (82), and Jamie Hoffmann (81), the first time in franchise history that's happened.
The Cal League postseason starts Wednesday against the Storm at Inland Empire.
