West Coast Pride: Mariners 7, Yankees 1
Ichiro got his 200th hit, the seventh straight year he's done that and only the third player in major league history to do that, as Felix Hernandez outdueled Roger Clemens and Mike Mussina. Clemens lasted only four innings, and gave up three runs on a two-out rally that included a hit batter and a two-run RBI double by Yuniesky Betancourt. George Sherrill got in trouble briefly by allowing A-Rod to get to second on a wild pitch and walking Hideki Matsui, but he got Jorge Posada to ground into a fielder's choice for the final out of the 8th.
The Yankees announcers are blathering on about how J.J. Putz, whom the Mariners brought in to pitch the ninth, is a relatively unknown because he plays in Seattle. He gets his first out with Jason Giambi popping out to short. After an extended eight-pitch battle, Putz blows down Robinson Cano with a 93 MPH fastball, and takes care of Melky Cabrera on a 6-3 bouncer to shut down the Yankees in order.
