Angels Announce ALDS Roster; Matthews, Jr., Colon Not On It

The Times reports that Gary Matthews, Jr. is still being hampered by a left knee injury that will keep him out of the ALDS.
Matthews will be replaced in center field by Reggie Willits, and because of his injury, utility player Erick Aybar made the Angels' 25-man playoff roster. The other reserves are catcher Jeff Mathis, first baseman Kendry Morales, outfielders Juan Rivera and Nathan Haynes and corner infielder Robb Quinlan.

The Angels suffered another loss today when Bartolo Colon felt a pinch in his elbow while playing catch and was taken off the playoff roster. Manager Mike Scioscia had announced earlier in the day that Colon would be part of the bullpen.

Right-hander Dustin Moseley, who earlier today was told he wasn't on the team, was told after the workout that he would be added to the playoff bullpen, which will include Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders, Darren Oliver, Scot Shields, Justin Speier and Francisco Rodriguez. Right-hander Chris Bootcheck did not make the roster.

That's too bad about Colon, but I guess it's to be expected. Any insight into why Moseley over Bootcheck? I hope Aybar doesn't make it into any game.

Bootcheck's most recent suckage was probably to blame for that.
