OT: Dick Clark, Please Retire Before You Die On Camera
Slurred every word, and he looked like he couldn't finish two sentences without coughing up a lung. I'll be shocked if he makes 2010.

Please, the guy had a stroke two years ago. It left him with slurred speech, but he's otherwise healthy for a man in his eighties. You can't give him 1/2 hour of airtime without criticism?
As someone who marveled at Dick's youth, it was hard to take, but we admire ballplayers who play through pain, we should have some admiration for Clark.

Get him off the air - it was like a sympathy telethon gone horribly wrong.
All the stroke did was make him finally act his age (he was born in 1929). Slurred speech? That was not all ... it appeared that teeth had been removed so that he would not bite his tongue, his facial expressions were paralyzed and his legendary makeup job was finally noticeable (because it can no longer hide the ravages of time as well as the stroke).
Plus worst of all it made some of us viewers feel old...

Once I saw how he treated his employees in Bowling for Columbine I wished death on Mr. Clark. He is a money-hungry SOB and deserves everything he got.
OK. Even I don't like the way that sounded out loud. Just retire. Dick.

Mr. Clark did have a stroke and it was a severe one from what I read at the time. He is going forward and appears to be trying to do something positive with his life. I admire him for having the courage to fight back from such a serious personal health crisis. The marketplace will determine if people will continue to want to see him on the air.
The market place? Seriously? What a weak, right-wing response. He is a jack-ass and an abomination of a host on a horrific show.
He needs to retire and ride off into the sunset.
He's doing something positive for himself while he treats his employees like shite.
He is an icky guy who looked like as arse in the Michael Moore movie.

Jim -- I have a friend who got his start in showbiz thanks to Dick Clark. Dick Clark Productions paid the worst wages and demanded tons of free overtime, but if you were willing (= could afford) to put up with that blatently illegal abuse, it was a foot in the door you could use to go elsewhere. Dick Clark is a reminder that Hollywood gets away with things no other employer could dream of, just because of the volume of people banging on the door.
If you do not like how an employer treats you, then use the door and find an employer who will treat you to your liking. Don't complain and berate the employer, no one is forcing you to stay. The world does not owe you a living.

Oh, horsepuckey. Berating the employer is exactly what needs to be done, especially in public. Companies like Dick Clark Prod. get away with murder (forcing people into unpaid overtime to keep their jobs) that would be flat illegal in any other industry. The world may not owe anybody a living, true, but Dick Clark's company operates in the state of California, and as such, it should abide by those laws. That it, and all of Hollywood, does not is proof enough of the rapaciousness of that "industry", such as it is.

Imagine having to go into the boss' office to get chewed out for doing a lousy job and your boss is Dick Clark and you cannot understand a word he is saying during the tirade...
I will be surprised if Dick remains on the show after last night. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you SHOULD. Somebody close to Dick needs to convince him that it's over. Ryan, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, producer..somebody get a hold of this guy. All of us in the room felt so horrible for him...not uplifted. Yes, we want the Dick Clark of the 1970's & 80's back! This is no great feat, ladies and gentlemen. Next, what...Dick Clark on a respirator? It's time to say good-bye to Rock 'N Eve forever and be content with life after show biz.
