Gnome Kidding, The Dodgers Won: Dodgers 9, Reds 3
My supposition so far about the Dodgers is that they can hit lousy pitching, but good pitching not so much. They finally encountered a pitcher they could handle in the guise of Matt Belisle, now less-than-proud owner of a career 12.54 ERA against Los Angeles. Not that that would have been very indicative, because he's only thrown 9.1 innings against the Blue, but still. Furcal and Nomar both homered, but the best news was the 15 hits the team put up.
Nevertheless, the big surprise may have been not a surprise to anyone availing themselves of the Dodger hitting gnome, a mystical being apparently discovered last night by Diamond Leung. "Rub me for hits," read the legend, and the slumping Russell Martin proceeded to go 3-for-3 with a walk, one of three Dodgers to have a multihit game. What, we might ask, is this character's name? Gnome-ar?
Update: From the BTF wags:
Gnome field advantage is the new market inefficiency.Ouch.
Also worth mentioning: Chan Ho Park's three-inning save, the first save of his career, was the first such for the Dodgers since Wilson Alvarez got one on April 4, 2004.
