News
- Bobby Mosebach was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week. From April 13 through 20, he tossed the first nine-inning complete game of the season and allowed two earned runs in two games. Tim Sexton made Cal League Pitcher of the Week.
- No Angel or Dodger was named Hitter of the Week.
- Here's a story about the Dodgers' Justin Miller straightening out his mechanics:
A change in his delivery resulted in the best start of the 20-year-old right-hander's career as he gave up two singles and struck out five over six innings.
"I felt a little better, strike zone-wise," Miller said. "I didn't walk anybody. I felt a lot better locating the ball. My alignment was off a little before. Today, I was opening up a little better. It was allowing me to throw strikes."
- Here's the weekly league notebook wrap post.
- The Travs had more roster moves today, releasing longtime farmhand RHP Von Stertzbach, sending C Tim Duff to AAA Salt Lake, and acquiring RHP Jeff Kennard from AAA Salt Lake. Duff replaces Bobby Wilson on the Bees' roster because starting catcher Bobby Wilson tweaked his leg on Sunday.
Scores
2008-04-21: Salt Lake 9, Portland 4 #
Sandoval, F: 4-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Evans: 1-5, 1 RBI, 3 K
Wood: 3-5, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 K
Loux: (W, 4-0), 6.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 1.40 ERA
Rodriguez, R: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 8.00 ERA
17-1, and you start waiting for the other foot to fall because it seems like this kind of hotness is waiting for another kind of coldness. Shane Loux can't get a strikeout to save his life, but he's 4-0 with a quality start in this one; the hilarious part comes when you look at the team stats and you realize there isn't a single man on the pitching staff with a losing record, or even more than one loss (Kasey Olenberger's it for now).

Brandon Wood's grand slam in the sixth off alleged major league starter Shawn Estes provided the highlight of an offense that didn't do much prior to that, going down in order in three of the previous five, and requiring a wild throw from Estes to plate Freddy Sandoval in the fourth.
2008-04-21: Arkansas 4, Tulsa 5 #
Statia: 0-5
Collins: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 RBI
Morrissey: 2-4, 1 RBI
Rodriguez, Fe: 6.0 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 7.59 ERA
Brandt: (L, 0-1) (in relief), 0.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 6.75 ERA
Fresh off a sweep of the Naturals, the air came out of the Travs' little streak with a thud, losing this one in the bottom of the ninth after they'd just tied it in the top of the frame. That happened in the most humiliating way possible, as Doug Brandt walked in the winning run with the bases loaded.

Moore: 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 BB
Romine: 1-4, 1 BB
Navarro: 0-3, 2 BB
Johnson: 1-3, 2 BB, 2 K
Fuller: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 K
De Los Santos: 0-4, 1 K
Gonzalez-Lopez: 2-4
Fish: 5.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 7 K, 4 BB, 2.95 ERA
Jimenez: (BS, 1)(L, 0-1) (in relief), 1.2 IP, 7 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 13.50 ERA
Dayton posted a seven spot in the wild seventh, a frame in which reliever Esmerlin Jimenez gave up a wild pitch that drove in a run from third. Three unearned runs (thanks to three errors in the sixth) helped limit the damage to his ERA, but all that overshadowed a pretty good game pitched by Robert Fish.

Repko: 1-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 K
Maza: 2-4, 1 BB
Lindsey: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB
Paul: 1-4
Meloan: (W, 2-0), 5.2 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 10 H, 7 K, 0 BB, 1.66 ERA
Pollok: 1.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 2.20 ERA
Falkenborg: (S, 2), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 7.04 ERA
A very nice game by Jonathan Meloan, who came within one out of a quality start (and by ERA, surpassed it), though you would like to see his hit total lower. The 51's opponent was a rehabbing Justin Duchscherer, who left the game after 2.2 innings (as a reliever, he probably wasn't being asked to pitch more than three anyway). Dan Meyer relieved him and surrendered three of Las Vegas' five runs, but escaped getting tagged with the loss.

2008-04-21: Jacksonville 5, Montgomery 4 #
De Jesus: 2-4, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB
May: 1-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Arias, M: 5.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 6.00 ERA
Wilson: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 1.80 ERA
Hammes: (H, 1), 1.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 4 BB, 3.55 ERA
Wade: (S, 1), 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 4.30 ERA
Jacksonville made it interesting by scoring three in the eighth (two on Lucas May's homer) and two more in the top of the ninth, but Zach Hammes came close to blowing the whole affair in the bottom of the ninth when he walked the bases loaded with no outs, and gave up a one-out single to Patrick Cottrell that plated two. After walking Ronnie Merrill, Jr. to re- load the bases, management called in Cory Wade, who got Rashad Eldridge to line out to end the game. Whew.
