Minor League Scorebook

2008-04-12: Portland 10, Salt Lake 11 #
Coon: 4-5
Evans: 0-4, 1 RBI
Morales: 3-5, 2 RBI
Brown, M: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI
Wood: 2-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 3 K
Pavkovich: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
Patchett: 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 K
Alvarado, C: 5.0 IP, 6 R, 6 ER, 5 H, 6 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 5.40 ERA
Bonilla: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 K, 2 BB, 5.68 ERA
Thompson: (H, 1), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 6.00 ERA
Arredondo: (S, 4), 1.0 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 3.60 ERA
One loss was enough, as the Bees turned right back around and won this one. Brandon Wood homered twice (his fifth and sixth for the year, now leading the league in that department). Matt Brown got his fourth dinger, and Brown all of a sudden has a small-sample-sized .489/.510/.957 line. Brandon Wood has a nine-game hitting streak, which is to say, he has hits in all but one of the games he's appeared in this year, and the last three of which have been multi-hit games; five of his 2008 home runs have come in his last five games, but he's had no extra-base hits aside from a double on April 5.

Starter Giancarlo Alvarado went five pretty terrible innings, giving up six runs, all earned, through five innings. Rich Thompson got his first hold of the year, and Jose Arredondo got his fourth save despite a very wobbly ninth in which he gave up a leadoff homer to Chase Headley, a player whose name sounds like it should be screenplay directions for Blazing Saddles.

Old Friend Oscar Robles appeared in the game and went 1-for-5 batting leadoff, and is currently hitting .250.

2008-04-12: Arkansas 6, Midland 3 #
Smith, Coby: 2-3, 1 BB
Statia: 1-4, 1 K
Collins: 0-4, 1 RBI
Peel, A: 0-0, 2 BB
Smith, Cor: 2-3, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Sutton: 3-4, 1 RBI
Ortega: (W, 1-1), 6.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 H, 7 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 2.45 ERA
Jepsen: (S, 1), 1.2 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Well, it took a while, and it wasn't even at home, but the Travs finally got their first win for the season. Corey Smith belted one over the right field fence to make the final tally of the game. Anthony Ortega got his first win of the year.
2008-04-12: Visalia 2, Rancho Cucamonga 3 #
Bourjos: 2-4, 1 K
Trumbo: 1-4, 1 3B, 1 K
Diaz: 6.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 9 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1.50 ERA
Bootcheck: (W, 1-0) (in relief), 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Browning: (S, 2), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 1.59 ERA
Chris Bootcheck made a rehab appearance with Rancho, and the Quakes made him a winner on a two-out RBI double by Wilberto Ortiz. I would have really liked to have seen how Mark Trumbo got a triple; by all accounts, he is a very slow runner.
2008-04-12: Lansing 3, Cedar Rapids 1 #
Fuller: 0-4, 2 K
Romine: 0-4, 1 K
De Los Santos: 2-4
Anton: (L, 0-1), 6.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 H, 6 K, 2 BB, 3.97 ERA
Michael Anton makes a pretty impressive Midwest League appearance, and takes a loss anyway. Jay Brossman, a Pioneer League postseason All-Star last year, continued his hot hitting right through this season and now sports a line of .406/.457/.594, with four of his 13 hits falling in for extra bases; he went 1-for-4 tonight.
