Snakes Fail To Understand "Team Control", Give CF Chris Young 6-Year/$30M Deal
The Arizona Diamondbacks, apparently failing to understand what economic advantages lie in his two remaining arbitration years, have signed senterfielder Chris Young to a six-year, $30M deal similar to that given to Troy Tulowitzky.

I think it's a reasonable gamble. Young is likely to be very good given his track record. They will surely gain in the savings during his arb years, much like the Indians have made out like bandits on the Grady Sizemore deal. If Cleveland went year to year, Sizemore would be looking at Matt Holliday money ($27.4 over his 3 arb years) instead of the $13.2m total during his 3 arb years.
ditto - i'd like a lead off hitter who hit 32 HRs as a Rookie.
(Heck, i'd be happy if Vlad hit 32 HRs this year.)
yeah, Young's other stats look sloppy, but this guy is a player.

They don't look that sloppy if you check his minor league numbers. ISO OBP around 90-100. Good power throughout. When he adjusts, that good eye should help his average come up.
If you figure an average of 7MM per in his arb eligible years, and at least nine (maybe more) in his free agent year, they don't really save much but $1MM, but depending on how the market goes, those numbers are conservative. Of course, they're kinda screwed if he tanks or gets hurt, but it's a decent gamble.
