Two Helpings Of Crow, Served Early: Angels 7, Red Sox 5

I'll write more about this after I have a chance to look at it in detail (and maybe even watch the game late after I get home tonight on reruns), but what a shocker. First thing I want to know: how long has it been since an Angels team won a three-game series in Fenway?

Update: Answering myself, it was only 2006, July 28 (won, 8-3), July 29 (lost, 7-6, in 11 innings), and July 30 (won, 10-4).

Mmm...good news tastes good to Duck.

Mmm...crow tastes good as well.

I've been skeptical about this year's Angels team, but this is a nice accomplishment.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Aybar, Kendrick was hitting well, and Kotchman has done nicely. The Angels have gotten some nice production up and down their lineup. If these kids come through, and Vladdy comes back to form, the Angels offense could be quite good this year, or at least better than I expected.

Also, don't forget the biggest surprise of all:

8 HRs 17 RBIs and ~.950 OPS from the catching position.

That, and Figgins' defense at third over the first 23 games. One of the league leaders in zone rating and fielding.

Good times.

And yet, Figgy's D has never really concerned me.

According to the Times, it's only been since 2006 since the Angels won a series at Fenway.

Yeah, what I said ... ?

I've had no problem with Figgins' defense either. He looked great at third in 2005. But there's not overstating it: Figgins' defense at third over the past two seasons was league average at best. This season he seems transformed, though. Rangier, more reactive, more assured in his transitions. It's visible beyond the Excel sheet, but reinforced by it too.
