Enough With The Blowouts Already: Mets 12, Dodgers 1
Brad Penny was 5-11 lifetime against the Mets with a 5.66 ERA, and this game didn't help matters. Penny gave up ten earned runs by himself, and maybe if this game were played at New York he might have gotten free wings at Hooters after the game. (Incidentally, has anybody heard that ad campaign this year? I don't recall it.) It also set a mark as Penny's worst single outing, previously a 11-7 shootout against the Red Sox while he was with the Fish. For the Dodgers collectively, it was the worst drubbing since a July 17, 2007 15-3 drubbing by the Phillies at home.
It was also a case of Scott Proctor possibly swirling the drain, as he couldn't hold the fort; only Chan Ho Park was able to escape unscathed. The only Dodger run scored in the bottom of the ninth on Matt Kemp's RBI single.
