Minor League Scorebook
News
- From the
tone of this MLB.com piece I assume that Brandon Wood is
going back to Salt Lake as soon as Kendrick or somebody returns
from the DL:
"That was a good at-bat by Woody," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said, adding that Wood's dexterity with the glove has as much to do with the start as his ability to drive balls 400 feet. "We're playing it day by day at third with Brandon and Q [Robb Quinlan] until we get our guys back."
- Here's today's Angels and Dodgers minor league roundups.
- Minor league baseball is already on pace to break all-time attendance records, up slightly from 2007 when the minors drew 42,812,812 fans. The total for April is 6,665,662, the highest in the 107-year history of the game, with the caveat that this April opened earlier than any prior minor league season (April 3).

Marlins affiliate Albuquerque won this one in extras, ironically enough on a 12th-inning rally started by a Dallas McPherson single and a Paul Hoover homer off Jose Arredondo. Nick Green got a 5-2 lead at the end of four but didn't close out five frames. Kendry Morales had a monster day at the plate with three doubles and three RBIs. Shortstop Gary Patchett also had a fine day, going 3-for-6 with a home run.

2008-05-06: Inland Empire 2, Rancho Cucamonga 9 #
Bourjos: 3-5, 1 HR, 4 RBI
Kendrick: 3-3, 2 HR, 2 RBI
Trumbo: 0-4, 1 K
Walker: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Toussaint: 2-3
Phillips: 1-3, 1 K
Herndon: (W, 2-3), 7.0 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 8 K, 1 BB, 5.29 ERA
The 66ers were unfortunate enough to encounter a rehabbing Howie Kendrick in this one; Howie seems to be fine for a return to the big club judging by his results tonight, a pair of solo homers and a single besides. After reaching on that single, he also stole second and scored thanks to a throwing error by catcher Carlos Santana and a fielding error by Trayvon Robinson. The 66ers seemed to have come unglued that inning following Brian Walker's leadoff homer.

Timothy Sexton gave up all but two of the runs surrendered by Inland Empire pitching (one of those unearned thanks to the aforementioned play). David Herndon pitched a quality start plus with eight strikeouts, his second win of the season and by far his best outing.
