Minor League Scorebook

2008-06-18: Salt Lake 2, Colorado Springs 3 #
Wood: 0-4, 3 K
Rodriguez, S: 1-4
Morrissey: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Wilson: 0-1, 1 K
Moseley: (L, 2-4), 6.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 K, 1 BB, 1 HR, 5.48 ERA
Dustin Moseley could have had a no-decision here, but he blew it in the bottom of the seventh, allowing Jayson Nix a single and a stolen base, and then giving up the go-ahead RBI single to Christian Colonel. Former major leaguer Mark Redman held the Bees to two runs over seven innings (but giving up six hits) and striking out nine.

The Bees have lost seven of their last eight, but are surprisingly still 7.5 games up on 36-35 Portland at 44-28.

2008-06-18: Springfield 15, Arkansas 4 #
Ortiz, W: 3-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI
Leahy: 2-4
Butcher: (L, 4-3), 6.1 IP, 10 R, 10 ER, 15 H, 3 K, 3 BB, 2 HR, 4.95 ERA
Brok Butcher got shelled and had to take one for the team on a day in which he clearly had nothing; the bullpen had pitched 15.2 innings over the prior two games.
2008-06-18: Lake Elsinore 6, Rancho Cucamonga 9 #
Bourjos: 0-5, 1 RBI, 2 K
Mount: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB
Conger: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 BB, 1 K
Trumbo: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Phillips: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
Norman: 1-2, 2 BB
Wipke: 2-3, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
Remole: 2-4, 1 RBI
Haynes: 5.1 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 8 H, 0 K, 3 BB, 1 HR, 5.19 ERA
Browning: (W, 2-1) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.05 ERA
Herndon: (S, 4), 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 1 BB, 5.62 ERA
Rancho trailed most of the way in this one but got within one on Flint Wipke's RBI double in the sixth, and then pulled ahead in an eighth-inning offensive explosion that saw Quakes batters hit for the cycle in almost perfect reverse order (Cliff Remole singled, Ryan Mount homered, Hank Conger tripled, and Mark Trumbo doubled).

Jeremy Haynes blew up in his second start, though he did last longer than in his first start (3.1 innings). Barrett Browning got the win in relief, and David Herndon notched his fourth save.

2008-06-18: Cedar Rapids did not play
2008-06-18: Ogden 3, Orem 13 #
Bailey: 0-5, 4 K
Castillo: 4-5, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K
Jimenez: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
Jacobo: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 K
Pippin: 0-2, 2 BB
Groth: 2-4, 1 3B, 2 RBI
Green: (W, 1-0), 5.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 3 K, 2 BB, 1.80 ERA
Cabrera: 2.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 0.00 ERA
Orem held the lead in this game for all but one inning, as Ogden tied it up in the top of the second on a fielding error by 2B Ivan Contreras. The Owlz came back in the bottom of the frame for three on Gabriel Jacobo's two-run homer that highlighted scoring in that frame, and Orem would continue to post crooked numbers in four other innings besides. Angel Castillo homered twice in the win, and Lou Green got the win.
2008-06-18: AZL Angels did not play
2008-06-18: Tacoma 7, Las Vegas 4 #
Repko: 0-3, 1 BB, 2 K
Paul: 2-5, 1 RBI, 1 K
Chavez, A: 2-4, 2 K
Garcia, S: 0-2, 2 BB
Meloan: (L, 4-6), 6.0 IP, 7 R, 4 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 1 BB, 4.29 ERA
Just a terrible game defensively for the 51's as shortstop Angel Chavez committed two errors that resulted in three unearned runs.
2008-06-18: Jacksonville 1, Birmingham 2 #
De Jesus: 1-3, 1 BB
May: 1-2, 1 BB
McDonald: 7.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 4 K, 0 BB, 3.52 ERA
Akin: (L, 2-7) (in relief), 1.0 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 H, 0 K, 2 BB, 5.62 ERA
Hammes: (BS, 2), 0.1 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 K, 1 BB, 6.41 ERA
This could be James McDonald's last game in the minors for a while as there's some speculation that he'll get a callup presently with Brad Penny going on the DL. That would probably involve the Dodgers DFAing Eric Stults first, so we'll see about that. Fortunately for McDonald, he posted a seven-inning shutout, so it's a good game to go out on if it does happen. James Akin lost the game in relief, as the only runs scored were in both team's halves of the ninth, with the Barons' final tally crossing the plate thanks to a fielding error by Jacksonville shortstop Ivan de Jesus.

Odd that both Birmingham pitcher Fernando Hernandez and manager Carlos Subero were ejected before the start of the bottom of the ninth.

Santana, C: 0-3, 1 RBI
Gallagher: 0-1, 3 BB
Adkins: (L, 3-6), 6.0 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 4 BB, 2 HR, 5.37 ERA
2008-06-18: Great Lakes did not play
2008-06-18: Ogden 3, Orem 13 #

Thompson: 4.0 IP, 5 R, 5 ER, 7 H, 7 K, 2 BB, 1 HR, 11.25 ERA
2008-06-18: GCL Dodgers did not play
