Minor League Scorebook

News

The Travs swapped outfielders with Salt Lake, sending hot-hitting Corey Smith up and getting Jordan Czarniecki in exchange. Smith is the reigning Texas League Player of the Week following a .422 streak in his last 12 games in which he hit 7 HR and 10 RBI with three doubles.

Any day you can get seven innings out of Nick Adenhart is ... well, better than 4.1 innings of five runs, which is what he did on his last start on the 12th.

Mosebach: (L, 9-11), 7.0 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 10 H, 4 K, 2 BB, 4.69 ERA
Bobby Mosebach pitched fairly well, but the Travs' starter had trouble retiring the 2-4 starters in the Missions lineup and paid the price. The Travs had ten hits but failed to score; only one of their hits fell for extra bases.
2008-08-17: Rancho Cucamonga 12, Lake Elsinore 2 #
Bourjos: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K

Bell: 1.0 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 4.38 ERA
The Quakes got at least two of every kind of hit you could care to name: two homers, three triples, two doubles, and eight singles. Rancho got off to a hot start with an eight-run first that just about instantly turned the game into a laugher. Peter Bourjos (single and two-run RBI double) and Ryan Mount (single and RBI triple) both had two hits in that inning, which was all they needed.

Jordan Walden only lasted five innings, giving up both the Storm's two runs. A.J. Ford and Trevor Bell went the rest of the way scorelessly.

A very disappointing third outing at Las Vegas for James McDonald, who didn't survive the fourth; he hit a batter and walked in a run.

OMG, Brandon Wood really is walking, isn't he?

Well, some. Since his July 19th "awakening", he's hitting .373/.439/.818, though I hasten to add that doesn't count hit-by-pitches and other low-frequency events that I currently do not capture in my database. He's walked 13 times in what I reckon as 123 plate appearances, so not really all that much. The delta between average and OBP is still not that big, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him struggle mightily against major league pitching.
