Angels Pound Kenny Rogers, Santana Solid, Magic Number Down To Six: Angels 7, Tigers 1
Torii Hunter homered, his 20th of the season, as did Tiger Curtis Granderson. About the only (slightly) disturbing thing in this game was the absence of Chone Figgins in the leadoff slot.
With the win, the Angels bring their magic number to six. With the Rangers idle, the Angels can't expect any help from that department today, but Texas faces the Red Sox in the weekend series at Arlington. The matchups will be Josh Beckett vs. Kevin Millwood tomorrow, Tim Wakefield vs. Matt Harrison Saturday, and Paul Byrd vs. Brandon McCarthy on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Angels will be in Chicago with three against the White Sox; Jered Weaver will miss his Friday start because of a cut hand he incurred while on the bench in Detroit. As a result, the weekend series matchups will go down as Dustin Moseley vs. Mark Buehrle on Friday, John Lackey vs. Gavin Floyd on Saturday, and Joe Saunders vs. John Danks on Sunday. My expectation for this weekend is for the magic number to drop by three, which means a clinch during the Yankees series the following weekdays is likely.
