Pickoff Moves
Angels Fail To Clinch: Yankees 7, Angels 1
Faced with an unknown righty this time, and with Ervin Santana pitching on short rest, the results were, if not predictable, understandable. Get 'em later today, a matinee game for which I won't be present, and bummer.Ethier Channels Manny: Dodgers 6, Padres 2
I did catch the last couple innings of this one as I left the Hollywood Bowl, where outgoing music director Esa-Pekka Salonen gave his penultimate performance there with Mahler's grandiose and gassy "Symphony of 1,000". (If you want to see the imp before he shuts it down for good, there's still a few performances left before he puts down the baton for real and goes back to full-time composition.)Wade LeBlanc blanked the Dodgers through five and finally gave up one in the sixth, but pitched creditably otherwise. The Pads took a 2-1 lead into the eighth and came out bloodied with a 3-2 deficit after Heath Bell gave up a tying run to Andre Ethier and the go-ahead run to Manny Ramirez. Clay Hensley gave up a bases-loaded triple to Ethier in the top of the ninth to put an exclamation point on a game already won. Jonathan Broxton shut down the Padres in the ninth, facing the 9-1-2 batters and allowing only a walk to Brian Giles.
The Dodgers got a bit of help from San Francisco, who beat the Diamondbacks 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth on Eugenio Velez's RBI single; the Giants' win gives the Dodgers their largest division lead of the year, at 2.5 games.
Playing Out The String, Mariners No Help To The Angels: Rangers 7, Mariners 3
Felix Hernandez had his shortest outing of the year as the Mariners rolled over to the Rangers. Former Angel prospect Warner Madrigal got his first taste of life as a closer, picking up a four-out save, his first in the majors.Roster Notes
- Torii Hunter left yesterday's game in the sixth with a tight quadriceps.
- Chone Figgins stayed out of yesterday's game after being plunked in the elbow on Monday by Carl Pavano.
- Brad Penny could be activated today.
- Takashi Saito and Rafael Furcal will play in a simulated game today.

Also, Salonen will be conducting this season at the Disney Concert Hall as well; but indeed, this is the last chance to see him leading the Phil. at the Bowl.
