Minor League Scorebook
News
- I had to do a quick doubletake from this Steve Bisheff piece, making the case for a free agency signing, or anyway, some pitching help outside the Angels organization, which contained this graf:
I follow the Angels as closely as anyone this side of the beat writers, and even I hadn't heard of Daniel Davidson, the latest lefty they called up. I needn't feel bad, though. When I looked him up in the team media guide, I found his picture on page 171, where he was identified as Daniel Davidson, outfielder. Apparently, even the guys writing the media guide hadn't heard of him.
No, but those of use who follow the Angels' minors on a regular basis have known of him for some time; he's not gonna set the world on fire, but he's had some good years in the minors, including a 2007 nod as a mid-season Texas League All Star. He's kind of a less-ept Joe Saunders: keeps the ball down and in the park, doesn't strike out a lot of guys, and does what he does by control. Get out some, Steve, the air's pretty good here. - Missed this yesterday, but the Angels promoted Eddie McKiernan from Rancho to AAA Salt Lake to make up for Dan Davidson being called up.
- The Angels might get Darren O'Day back from the Mets for $25,000, as New York failed to keep him on their 25-man roster.
- Because I don't want to spawn a story for this: Kevin Jepsen is having back spasms, which probably explains his recent lousy pitching. I know he's not great, but this bad I certainly didn't expect.
- And I just realized this, but it looks like just about all the holdouts that were running their own websites (the Travs, Bees, and Isotopes, at least) have switched to using the MILB.com website. It's kind of too bad, because the Bees used to have a very useful transaction feature that got lost in the transition, and the Travs had excellent post-game notes. Anyway, sidebar changes will be coming soon.
Update: Just amazing: only three clubs have their own websites anymore, the 66ers, Kernels, and Owlz. There was a lot of good stuff there that's been just vanished. Too bad.
- Also showing how little I've been paying attention: the Bees' home park has changed names yet again, with Spring Mobile now the name sponsor for their home park ("Spring Mobile Ballpark").

Comments:
At least Trevor Reckling looks like the real deal. But what a bad luck pitcher! He only gives up 2 ERs in his first three games, and he already has two losses?
