A Dish Best Served Cold: Angels 9, Rangers 4
Weaver benefited from the night air at Angel Stadium that likely kept a couple balls in the yard that would surely have been home runs in Arlington, as well as a sparkling defensive play by Torii Hunter in center to rob Hank Blalock of a double.
Every Angels starter except Maicer Izturis and Howie Kendrick (update: and, yes, Chone Figgins, but he walked thrice) got at least one hit; Jeff Mathis had an early and unexpected three-run homer in the second that inverted a 2-0 Angels deficit, changing the character of the game right away and sparking a long string of hyperactive offense the rest of the night. Great game by the boys; and before I leave, I should add props to the bullpen, who had yet another couple scoreless frames to their tally. The relief corps still trails the league in ERA, but it hasn't felt that way for the last couple weeks or so. It'll take some time to undo the wreckage from the early part of the season, but if they can keep pace like this, it's still doable.
