Angels Try Hard To Lose, Beat O's With A Huge 13th: Angels 17, Orioles 8
That scenario played out again in the ninth, when Brian Fuentes gave up the tying run facing the 1-2-3 batters, Adam Jones hitting a sac fly to deep left. That set up an extra innings run that was both tedious and frustrating, considering the Angels failed to score with the bags juiced in the 11th and 12th, with less than two outs.
But they finally made up for it in the 13th, loading the bases with nobody out. It was one of those moments where you want to strangle someone or something, because I was fairly expecting Torii Hunter to hit into yet another double play (which, shockingly, would have been only the Angels' second of the day). He didn't, bouncing one right up the middle, and launching a hilarious merry-go-round of typical Angels' offense, most of which I missed because I was cooing over the neighbors' new puppy. Six of the Angels' nine runs scored with two outs in the 13th, and three of those on a Juan Rivera three-run jack.
Outside of the starting pitching, the Angels got some decent work from their relief crew, who gave up only two runs over nine innings. That kudo goes especially to Jose Arredondo and Jason Bulger, who managed a pair of scoreless frames apiece, with Bulger getting the win. A really useful and solid win for the Angels, who enter tomorrow's finale with a 2-1 lead in the series.
Incidental note: Chone Figgins got his 1000th career hit in the sixth inning. Go him!
Update: David Pinto notes that the Angels have now scored 666 runs on the season. Heh.
