Longballs Propel Angels Series Win: Angels 8, Orioles 5

Kendry Morales, Maicer Izturis, and Vlad Guerrero — the latter, twice — all homered in this one, Vlad's second one a three-run jack in the seventh with two out against Cla Meredith that should not but did provide the margin of victory. The Angels trailed only briefly against Baltimore, who took a 1-0 lead into the top of the second, but were quickly stripped of that margin in the bottom of the frame, when Kendry Morales blasted a homer on top of the short wall in right; initially ruled a double because it bounced back into the field of play, the umpires correctly called it a home run because the ball struck the top of the wall, according to the ground rules.

Ervin Santana pitched a quality start, something he's had trouble with this year, giving up single runs in the first, third, and sixth; by the time the sixth inning came around, it was really questionable whether he would survive to even finish six, but he got a couple groundouts when he needed them.

Jose Arredondo came in to finish the game after a pair of scoreless frames by Darren Oliver, and gave up two runs on a walk and a homer to Melvin Mora; he clearly didn't have much, and so when he gave up a triple to Nolan Reimold, that was enough to get Mike Scioscia to reach for Brian Fuentes. Fuentes, despite his recent tendency to melt down against first batters, got Brian Roberts to foul out to third on three pitches, and thus the game.
