Ay, Ay! The Admiral Comes Through: Angels 3, Mariners 2 (10 Innings)
Brian Fuentes spoiled Scott Kazmir's first chance at a win in an Angels uniform, giving up the tying run to leadoff man Mike Sweeney on the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth. It says something that even the team broadcasters, Mark Gubicza in particular, felt obliged to remind the audience on the occasion of Fuentes' sixth blown save of the year that he wasn't going anywhere as the team closer.
Yet, anyway.
Bobby Abreu drove in the other two Angels runs but got credit for only one, the second due to a Jack Wilson error. The Mariners scoring prior to Fuentes' flop consisted of a Franklin Gutierrez solo homer; too bad he sux0red. Lucky for him, Erick Aybar knocked home the go-ahead run on an up-the-middle single, giving Matt Palmer his 10th win for the season; what a charmed existence that guy has lived this year.
