Dodgers Stumble To The Finish: Padres 4, Dodgers 3

It's not that I think the Rockies (who crushed Arizona 13-5 earlier in the day) are really seriously in contention for the division lead — but if the Dodgers keep hitting like this, they might. Fangraphs blames new acquisition Ronnie Belliard, who grounded into a double play in the fourth; kind of ironic given this David Ely MLB.com story on Belliard in which the Dodgers are reputed to be getting a lot out of him. Well: Padres starter Tim Stauffer certainly had a good outing.

The guys in the TV booth were going after Manny Ramirez, and who can blame them? 22 RBIs in the second half, and only seven home runs. In between stupid Steve Phillips cracks about Manny's hair keeping him from hitting (funny, it wasn't a problem before his suspension), you do wonder whether he's getting close to being done.

Hiroki Kuroda wasn't terrible in his return from the DL, giving up all four runs in five innings of work. The Dodgers bullpen posted zeroes the rest of the way.

And the Dodgers are still 3.5 games up on the Rocks.
