Rangers Finances Worsening; League Calling The Shots?
David Pinto points us (sans story link) to a Baseball Time In Arlington piece questioning the Rangers' finances in the face of mounting evidence that the club is running on fumes:
- Team President Nolan Ryan claimed that the team was unlikely to be sold prior to 2010, though there are signs to the contrary; in particular, the team has fielded six offers to buy, since narrowed to three.
- Bud Selig apparently forced Texas to lowball their bid to Matt Purke, who offered the 14th overall pick $4M — which he turned down to go to Texas Christian University.
- The league may also prevent Kevin Millwood from making his next scheduled start because it would cause his $12M 2010 option to vest.
