Tron-Tron Misses The Plate And The Dodgers Miss The Sweep: Diamondbacks 5, Dodgers 4
Despite my earlier warning about the possibility the last-place Snakes could have been eliminated tonight, the Dodgers managed to let that reckoning slide to another day, and another opponent in all probability. The Dodgers took early leads of 1-0 (on a Manny Ramirez RBI single) and 3-2 (on a pair of solo shots by Manny and James Loney, both versus Arizona starter Dan Haren), but were unable to hold either, as starter Jon Garland gave up the tying run in the fifth on Justin Upton's scoring groundout.
The end was a lot of whimpering, but nothing else, as the Dodgers only got one man as far as second base, Matt Kemp in the eighth on Andre Ethier's single. Ramon Troncoso's walk-off, bases-loaded walk to Mark Reynolds following not one but two intentional passes has to rank up there with some of the oddest bullpen usage I've ever seen. Huh?
And the Dodgers' lead is now down to 2.5 games.
