Angels To Call Up Garret Richards From AA Arkansas Wednesday
Per a Mike DiGiovanna tweet. Garret Richards is 12-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 21 appearances, all starting. Presumably, this means the Angels' dalliance with Tyler Chatwood is on thin ice, given his back-to-back bad starts and relative inexperience. Joel Pineiro has already been demoted to the bullpen, so this is a Hail Mary move from the team.

Comments:
I don't think this has anything to do with Chatwood; rather, it has everything to do with the fact that Pineiro was demoted and WTY has been suspended for six games. Presumably, team brass felt more comfortable having a relative unknown with a fastball face the Yankees than Trevor Bell, Takahashi or Matt Palmer. Personally, I would have voted for Bell or Palmer for the spot start, but maybe the team thinks it has a better shot going with someone on whom there are fewer scouting reports.
