Sandy Koufax Possibly Among Madoff's Victims

A New York Post report indicates that Sandy Koufax may be among the victims of Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme.

In case you missed it, the Wall Street Journal published Harry Markopolos' testimony before Congress (PDF), and fascinating reading it is, too, with a full accounting for his suspicions, how he validated them as far back as 2000, and how the SEC and the Journal refused to lift a finger to expose Madoff's fraud.

OT: About The 2008 Olympics

I am not watching the 2008 Olympic games out of protest. China is the last true empire, their politics are noxious to what the United States truly stands for, their ambitions are nothing short of horrifying, and I have no desire to help a repeat of the 1936 spectacle along. Pass. And that is all I have to say about that.

OT: Supremes Vote For Habeas Rights!

The Supreme Court has validated constitutional habeas corpus rights for the third time in six years. Evil keeps trying, though: Bush says he'll try for "new" legislation.
"Today's decision forcefully repudiates the essential lawlessness of the Bush administration's failed Guantanamo policy," said Steven Shapiro, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union. "It should also mark the beginning of the end of the military commission process, which permits the use of coerced evidence and hearsay and thus cannot survive the constitutional scrutiny that today's decision demands. It is time to close Guantanamo, end indefinite detention without charge and restore the rule of law."
It was a close call, though: only 5-4. What is up with those sickos who wanted to keep that gulag open?

OT: The Spies Who Love You

Via Glenn Greenwald, we discover something epochal: George W. Bush is finally telling the truth about something:
Allowing the lawsuits to proceed could aid our enemies, because the litigation process could lead to the disclosure of information about how we conduct surveillance.
For instance, how they're trolling large numbers of phone calls unrelated to any real investigations, just because. That's the last thing the White House wants known, so they're praying and hoping that telecom amnesty can ensure there will never be any real investigations of what they're up to. (Speaking of that, why the hell is Henry Waxman wasting his time on steroids investigations?)
