Mariners Release Horacio Ramirez

Bad news, Angels fans: the M's just got a little better. Seattle released Horacio Ramirez, a dumptruck of a guy who will not be missed, at least, not by Mariners fans. I liked him, though — 13.50 ERA against the Angels in 2007. Meantime, Rafael Soriano had a 3.00 ERA in 72 innings of relief for the Braves with a 70:15 K:BB ratio.

Seattle is only responsible for 30 days of Ramirez' $2.75M 2008 salary.

I love Bill Bavasi, so long as he's working for another team, preferably one in the same division as a team I root for.

Pirates Fire GM Dave Littlefield

Via BTF, the Pittsburgh Post-Dispatch reports that the Pirates have fired GM Dave Littlefield, whose combined teams since 2001 have run up a 442-581 record, and never once had even a breakeven season. The interim GM is former director of player development Brian Graham. The team is also looking for a CEO since the exit of Kevin McClatchy. Perhaps of most interest to this blog, though, is the fact that Jim Tracy still has one more year on his contract, but I have to believe Tracy's a dead duck after this season.

Dodgers DFA Brett Tomko

About time. Couldn't pitch out of the pen, couldn't pitch in the rotation... what was left?

Update: U.S.S. Mariner wants him back. You can have him.
