Dodgers 5, Brewers 2

I used to have Jackson as my desktop background after that phenominal game in Arizona last year, the one where he beat Randy Johnson and the Snakes 4-1. You heard all the superlatives the Dodgers were putting out about this young man, and you'd think they'd have to buy new dictionaries. The second coming of Dwight Gooden, they said -- only better, because this kid's got his head screwed on straight.

Then Tracy pulled the same stunt on Edwin he pulled on Joe Thurston the year before, and Jackson started to pitch horribly in Spring Training, losing a rotation spot that was his to lose.

Well: tonight, against a Brewers team that's no slouches, he came back and pitched a three-hit, one run game.

What a comeback.

Sure, the team's not going to let him have too many chances, not with Nomo on the DL and expecting a quick recovery. And this outing wasn't as good as it looks at first glance, with Jackson hurling 96 pitches over five innings of work -- hardly economical. He's going back down to Vegas after today.

But.

Good luck, Edwin. I'm rooting for you. Here's to seeing that amazing arm stay up here one day.

Recap

Postscript: Wait Till Next Year has a much better recap of tonight's game than I can write, given that I didn't watch the game more than an out here or there. With two great story lines -- Washburn's amazing run of hit support luck, and the return of Jackson to the big club -- one of them had to suffer.
