Dodgers 2, Padres 1

Wow. Easily the best game I've seen all season, with spectacular pitching and defense on both sides. Jay Payton's catch on Bradley will be on Web Gems tonight, no question. You can see how either of these teams could end up in the postseason. Was Ventura the hero? So, equally, was Dreifort. And Jayson Werth's cap tip to the crowd behind him in left field after the certain haranguing he must have received all game -- now that was both funny and classy all at once.

Recap

Comments:
and don't forget Gagne pitching 3 innings! awesome afternoon.
speaking of both teams in the postseason, I'd most definitely rather see the Pads take the wild card. if the cubs overtake sd, most likely we'll face the cubs first, and I don't want to face their aces in a short series. I'd much rather see ATL first. I'd assume STL would beat SD, which would lead to a fabulous series, albeit a very tough one for LA.

To be honest, if things stay as they are, I think it's going to be a Cards-Yankees series -- and the Cards will win. The Cards ran away with a NL Central, barring a comeback by the Cubs (which isn't out of the realm of possibility, but somewhat unlikely). Nobody else has that kind of commanding lead on their division, save for the Yanks.

Why would LaRussa do that? It doesn't make any sense given the junk they have in their minors. They're making a run to go all the way this year. They have to -- that outfield is aging, Edmonds especially.

As to why I want the Dodgers to play the Cards now, well, I have to believe that we're on a streak and so are they; it's our best chance.
