Pickoff Moves
Sickels On Chone Figgins
FutureAngels has a nice column from John Sickels on Chone Figgins' past, present and future. It certainly sounds like he's going to have a nice little career considering his comparables.More Noses, More Projections
- Dodger Hill has their picks up for the divisions:
American League West Finish Team 1 Angels 2 Rangers 3 A's 4 Mariners National League West Finish Team 1 Dodgers 2 Padres 3 Giants 4 Diamondbacks 5 Rockies National League Central Finish Team 1 Cardinals 2 Astros 3 Cubs 4 Brewers 5 Reds 6 Pirates National League East Finish Team 1 Marlins 2 Braves 3 Phillies 4 Mets 5 Nationals - Josh and Richard at Pearly Gates give their best shot at predicting the divisions. To answer a question: Richard, you're nuts for picking the Mets in the NL East. As to the Dodgers coming in fourth, I don't see it unless Drew collapses and the pitching staff continues to have injury problems, then all bets are off.
- Randy Youngman in the Register likes the Angels and Giants, respectively, in their divisions, with the Dodgers placing second. Bonus points for this quip after projecting the A's to trail the division: "The next book mentioning A's "genius" Billy Beane will be called Wreckingball." (His opinion, not mine, obviously.)
- Joe Sheehan's NL West:
Record RS RA Dodgers 93-69 755 685 Padres 87-75 743 672 Giants 83-79 810 769 Diamondbacks 76-86 853 880 Rockies 67-95 875 951
... and the NL Central:
Record RS RA Cubs 90-72 815 705 Cardinals 89-73 821 712 Reds 81-81 848 854 Brewers 78-84 717 737 Astros 77-85 741 788 Pirates 69-93 675 766
... and the NL East:
Record RS RA Mets 91-71 761 678 Phillies 88-74 835 792 Marlins 85-77 764 703 Braves 83-79 771 725 Nationals 66-96 651 761
- More generally, nearly everyone at BPro picked the A's to win the AL West.
- Pearly Gates points out the great sea of ESPN.com "expert" picks, with near unanimity (save for Rob Neyer and Jim Caple, who pick the A's) about the Angels winning the AL West, and only three guys (Eric Neel, Alan Schwartz, and Rob Neyer again) picking the Dodgers to win the NL West; the largest number picked the Padres (9) followed by the Giants (7) to take it.
