Pickoff Moves, Bedtime Edition
Vlad Sees Quick Recovery
Says Mike DiGiovanna of the Times:Right fielder Vladimir Guerrero, remembering his return from a similar injury in 2001, said he is confident he will be "fully recovered" from a partial dislocation of his left shoulder by the time he is eligible to come off the disabled list in two weeks."They're already setting up an exercise program that worked the last time, and back then, I only missed three or four games," Guerrero said Sunday through an interpreter. "This is the same type of injury."
...
"If the situation comes up again, I will do it the same way," said Guerrero, whose 2001 injury came on a dive back to first base. "I can't control [injuries]. I can't play the game careful. I'll play the game the same way."
Other Roster Moves
- The Giants have added Marquis Grissom to the DL, with a hamstring injury, and a bone bruise to his knee suffered during a fall on clubhouse stairs at SBC Park.
- Ray Durham sprained his left middle finger in batting practice and missed today's game.
- Giants ace Jason Schmidt pitched a simulated game and will make his expected Tuesday start against the Dodgers.
(Mostly) Interleague Madness
A few of these with ex-Angels involved:- A 4-hit complete game shutout for Aaron Sele? Wuzza? It was the first consecutive loss for the Padres this month; for the M's, it represents only the second series win this month.
- Former Dodger Craig Counsell knocked in the only run for the Diamondbacks as they beat the Tigers 1-0. The Snakes won both of their interleague contests.
- Giants 3, Oakland 1: Lowry outpitched Zito in this one; Zito was just plain wild at times, and Alou for a few minutes, anyway, was every bit the guy the Giants hoped for, homering to left with a man on base.
- Visalia 7, Rancho Cucamonga 1: time to panic: Kendry Morales only went 1-3 with a walk, bringing his career professional average down to .375. Aaaaa!
Update: Stephen Smith has video (RealMedia) of the press conference where Kendry was introduced to the press, as well as video of his homer in Saturday's game.
- Update 2: I knew I forgot something: in the 9-2 loss to the Royals, St. Louis shortstop and former Angel David Eckstein committed three errors. Ugh..
- Update 3: Not only did Ramon Ortiz give up three runs in 5.2 innings, but he took a comebacker to the face in a 9-2 loss to the Indians, who feasted on Cincy's lousy bullpen. Six of the runs came in the ninth, five off "closer" Danny Graves, who only made a single out and was forced out of the game.
Computer Time. Riiight.
Carlos Zambrano says the elbow stiffness he's been suffering from is related to the time he spends on the computer. He writes e-mails to his brother and others in Venezuela for up to four hours a day, so he claims."The thing I've seen about people on the computer and the Internet is that it's addicting," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "We told him not to get on it, and you turn around and he's on the computer."Advice I certainly wouldn't give him.
