Pickoff Moves, Bedtime Edition

Rangers Release Pedro Astacio

The Texas Rangers released Pedro Astacio. Astacio had been DFA'd earlier in the month.
"Our goal with Pedro was to bring him here, have him have a successful year and leave our young guys in the minors most of the year -- if not all year," Hershiser said. "The secondary goal was that if Pedro didn't make it back and wasn't successful, then our young guys would have a third or a half of a season in the minors and would be able to push him out or push others out. So we had to go with the secondary plan."
The former Dodger had a 2-8 record with a 6.08 ERA with the Rangers in 2005.
