Streak: W1: Dodgers 6, Padres 4

Since when does a Dodger closer have a 4.50 ERA? Since Yhency Brazoban became Yhency Beatable, that's when. The ninth was as scary as any I've seen lately, but the Dodgers held on, and thank God. With Drew out of the lineup, the one guy I've been wanting to kick actually came through with a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Dodgers the lead, a lead they wouldn't surrender, amazingly enough.

Jeff Kent is a gorgeous, statuesque ballplayer marred by a permanent sneer. The only time he smiles is when he's ready to drop an F-bomb, or chew out an umpire, as he did today prior to his ejection. He's an odd contradiction, abrasive before the camera and prickly on the field (as when he was chewing out Choi the other day after Choi's misplay at first). Did his ejection "get the team fired up", as Mark Gubicza suggested? I find it unlikely. If the Dodgers need Kent to get ejected to score runs, the Dodgers will find themselves without a useful bat most of the year. More, DePo needs to get better players. But we knew that already.

I still think the Pads win the next one and the Dodgers lose twice against the Angels.

Recap

Comments:
Personally, to paraphrase a famous song, I've grown accustomed to his face. As a Giant, of course I hated him. But now as a Dodger I find his surliness refreshing, especially given the team's current lethargy.
