The Beginnings Of Byrdmania: Angels 3, Twins 2
These games are absolute nailbiters, and not least because Paul Byrd -- an ostensible soft-tossing control artist -- seemingly came unglued today, plunking Lew Ford to lead off the third, and in the sixth, throwing as many balls as strikes, including a teeth-gnashing nine-pitch at bat to Torii Hunter. Still, it was a big improvement over his last outing against the Twins, in which he surrendered five earned runs. I don't like playing the Twins, and for the simple reason that they're just about the same team as the Angels; for that reason I expect them to regroup and win the next two.
Other'n that: despite Finley's 0-3 day at the plate, he managed to pick up an RBI on a sac fly, a good thing, and make a really excellent play picking off a long fly ball certain to be a home run otherwise. (Now hopefully he didn't re-injure his shoulder...)
The Angels could sure use some bullpen help right about now... with only Shields and Donnelly to bridge the starters into Frankie, you can see that Shields is really starting to feel the overwork.
