Pickoff Moves
Angels 5, Royals 0
If a game isn't televised and it's rain-shortened anyway, did it really exist? Whatever, Wash and the offense get to pad their numbers, and Maicer Izturis gets to embarrass Bill Stoneman a little further (2-5 with an RBI).Diamondbacks 7, Las Vegas 51's 5
Why is Hee Seop Choi not starting this game? Seriously? Have they just given up? Whatever, it looks like J.D. Drew will be disabled after taking a pitch on his wrist. Penciling names like Cody Ross and Mike Edwards in the outfield is just another way of plumbing the depths of inadequacy in the outfield. And Houlton's lousy outing -- lasting only two innings -- means the Dodgers are out of options from the minors, unless you count a return of Derek Thompson (4.50, 1-1 in two starts at Las Vegas).Look up, Dodger fans; at least the team will have a nice position next year for the draft.
Roster Moves
- Of course, the lead story on ESPN since yesterday is the Mariners DFAing Brett Boone, the most productive second baseman in that franchise's history. When you pay a guy $8M/year, he damn well better hit some dingers, and Boone isn't doing that. Are you taking notes, Orlando?
- Sammy Sosa got benched in an effort to shake him out of a slump. Was this not predictable? Why do you make a trade for a guy this far into a decline phase? I just never understood the Sosa/Hairston trade from the Birds' point of view.
- Now that the Angels are no longer playing them -- and especially since they're out of division for both the Angels and Dodgers -- time seems to have soothed my feelings some about the Nationals. Still, I had to get a little snicker when I read that injury magnet Nick Johnson has been disabled for a bruise on his right foot.
- Update: The Register says Steve Finley will probably be activated Friday.
- Colon would have started off the first game after the All-Star break, but will skip that turn and will possibly have start Friday or even Saturday depending on how many innings he pitches in the All-Star game.
- Cesar Izturis is still unlikely to play in tonight's game.
OT: Grilling Recommendation For Your Fourth
Trader Joe's carne asada. Tried it yesterday, made some fantastic tacos out of it. Yum! Go early, TJ's closes at 5:00 PM today.Newer› ‹Older
