Pickoff Moves
Roster Notes
- The Dodgers have finally decided Jason Grabowski has no business being on a major league roster, and have sent him to the 115-degree hell that is Las Vegas. Wilson Alvarez, balky shoulder, lousy command and all were promoted to the non-Anaheim Los Angeles. Grabowski cleared waivers and chose to remain a Dodger anyway.
- Milton Bradley will continue his Las Vegas rehab assignment today, batting left-handed.
- Update: Jose Valentin started his rehab in Las Vegas Sunday, going 1-2.
- Robb Quinlan's recovery from his neck strain is still a work in progress with no timetable for return.
Escobar Counsels Santana
... on how to deal with adversity:"When guys get on base and you're in a tough spot, young guys become too aggressive," Escobar said. "You have to be calm, forget about runners and make your pitches. Don't try to be too perfect. It's not how hard you throw, it's making pitches, changing speeds. Throw the ball down in the zone and you'll be fine because you have great stuff."
Colon's Stubbornness
You may have heard that Colon shook off too many of Benjie's signs in Saturday's game, refusing to go with the changeup when Bart wanted the fastball. Former Dodger catcher Mike Scioscia isn't fazed by it:"It's not a huge issue. We'll learn from it. Certainly, I have no issue overall with our pitch selection. This experience will make things go a little smoother in the future."
Kenny Rogers Turns Self In
Kenny Rogers turned himself in to police, whereupon he was released on bail, for a class A assault of KDFW cameraman Larry Rodriguez, and a class C assault of cameraman David Mammeli. Rogers is free on a $1,500 bond.Update: Forgot to mention this part:
Rogers jawed at a cameraman for Dallas-Fort Worth television station WFAA as he was booked into the county jail. Just as with the incident that led to the charges, the exchange was caught on tape.Great thing to say as they're arraigning you, Kenny.WFAA reported on its Web site Monday that photographer Mike Zukerman was videotaping the procedure when Rogers turned to him and said, "You're getting really close; you know that? Do you hear me?"
A few seconds later, Rogers again turned to the camera, saying, "You must be pretty proud of yourself, too."
After Zukerman replied, "It's just my job, Kenny," Rogers responded: "Yeah. Your job. That's just your excuse."
