Large Colon: Angels 3, Orioles 1

Luck played a huge part of this game; Colon -- not El Ladrón -- had two points in the game where line drive double plays saved his, uh, bacon. Never mind that; he pitched another impressive game, garnering his seventeenth -- seventeenth! -- win, and earning it every step of the way, only one out from a complete game. The print campaign for a Cy Young having started, Colon might just surprise me by winning it. Speaking of records earned, Frankie got the closing out, and actually earned that save.

Quinlan continued his torrid hitting; Figgins got on base twice by the walk, an encouraging sign from a hacker. Vlad and Anderson worry me.

Two consecutive games without Finley starting. Two consecutive wins. Scioscia, are you taking notes?

Hi from Chicago!

Anyway, I was talking to my dad about this, and the intentional walks to Vlad worry me. He's not a Barry Bonds type who can shrug that stuff off. He wants to get up there and hack, and I think taking the bat out of his hands has been very frustrating. I'm worried that it can, and has, affected his approach at the plate when he actually is pitched to. I'm afraid he's really going to try too hard and it well send him into a slump.

Of course, most guys when they try too hard end up swinging at everything and trying to hit it 600 feet. Vlad does that all the time anyway, so I'm not sure we'll be able to tell the difference.

Yeah, I think somebody (maybe you?) brought that up in the Halos' Heaven gameday thread. It's a good point; it's wrecking his timing.
